Job Description

Help Honda create passenger cars by using your knowledge of electrical engineering and control systems. This is a long-term contract engineering position assisting Honda R&D.

Job Summary:

Incorporate vehicle control and driving aid technology into Honda and Acura’s prototype cars. The task is to include brake and stability assist technology in the lineup of Honda vehicles in North America. Bench testing, in-vehicle validation/verification on proving grounds, specification preparation and/or revision, direct coordination with Tier 1 suppliers, and integration are all necessary for this. Support control validation testing while working under the supervision and guidance of Honda associate engineers. The ability to work independently and generate outcomes is required.

Duties:

  • Review the specifications for the current electronic control systems and create the functional requirements for each vehicle’s Controller Area Network interface, Self-Diagnostic, and Failsafe Detection.
  • Validate the software of the electronic braking and stability assist systems by conducting the necessary bench and in-vehicle testing.
  • EMC and ultrasonic testing should be used to validate electrical devices. Work with the supplier to address any issues that are discovered.
  • Support ISO 26262 testing, keep the timeline for the deliverables on track, and make sure the engineering leadership has accepted the requirements.
  • Lead the integration and testing of software functions into the vehicle in direct collaboration with the system supplier.
  • Negotiating requirements with teams from various functions (meter, ADAS, architecture, etc.) and working with design functions to guarantee that the electronic brake and stability assist system drawings are applied with the necessary control specifications.
  • Lead chassis software/control issue resolution across engineering (manufacturing) and design. Coordinate with factory associates during build phases to verify controls are meeting needed standards. Ensure that key deliverables for regional developments are coordinated with the global headquarters.
  • Drive the vehicle on a road or test course to gather test data for analysis, and instrument test parts and test cars to collect data required to validate specifications.
  • Develop tools continuously with an emphasis on test effectiveness and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of electrical, electromagnetic, and ultrasonic components.
  • Knowing CAN structures or other equivalent microcontroller communication architectures, requirements management, function validation, diagnostics, and
  • Familiarity with the creation of control specifications
  • Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of vehicle systems and relationships between different functions 
  • Analytical abilities that are required to identify problems with control systems, make suggestions, and put them into practice have been demonstrated.
  • Strong PC skills (including Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and other technical programs)
  • An advantage is knowing data gathering systems such as Vector CAN tools.
  • Familiarity with the functional safety standard ISO 26262
